Dr Hugo Nelson, CFA
CEO and Founding Partner at FVC Advisors
Dr Nelson qualified as a Medical Doctor and holds an M.B.A. from the Said Business School, Oxford University (Green Templeton College). He is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Dr Nelson served as the Chief Executive Officer of Coronation Asset Management Proprietary Ltd., the largest listed independent investment manager on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. He was the Chief Executive Officer of Coronation Fund Managers Ltd from November 2007 to January 2013, by which time Coronation managed more than 10% of South African contractual savings with assets under management of 40 billion USD.
He joined Coronation in 1999 as part of the investment team, initially as an Equity Analyst. He then progressed into the role of Portfolio Manager of equity mutual funds (Resources and Top20) and eventually multi asset class institutional funds. He also ran a market neutral equity fund. He was appointed deputy CEO in March 2007. He served as a Non-Executive Director of Namibia Asset Management Ltd., Coronation Botswana Ltd. and Coronation International Ltd. (UK and Ireland), from May 2008.

Dr Michael Streatfield, CFA
Chief Scientist and Founding Partner at FVC Advisors
Michael obtained his Doctorate in Financial Economics from the University of Oxford, Saïd Business School in 2012 where his research interest was hedge fund fees and return revisions. His work has been accepted for publication in the prestigious Journal of Finance. Dr Streatfield’s career at Investec Asset Management (Investec) spanned 14 years from 2000 to 2014 where he held several executive roles.
He has gained experience across the arena with responsibilities in financial analysis, multi-management, investment product development, quantitative management, and in strategy assisting the MD with business and industry strategic projects. Prior to Investec, Michael was a Research Actuary at Watson Wyatt (now Towers Watson). He has also held the positions of Head of Quantitative Research at Fleming Martin Asset Management and Investment Actuary at Old Mutual Asset Management.
Michael received a B. Business Science (Actuarial, 1st class Honours) from the University of Cape Town, with distinctions in mathematics and statistics. His professional qualifications are as: a qualified actuary, a certified financial planner, and a chartered financial analyst charter holder. Michael has been active in industry bodies holding board memberships and committee positions in various associations.
Mr Mike Kane, CA(SA)
COO and Founding Partner at FVC Advisors
Mike Kane is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a B.Comm from the University of Cape Town. Mike worked as a partner at EY from 2000 to 2014. His most recent role was leader of EY Advisory’s private sector market in Africa. This corporate consulting business deployed professionals from a pool of more than 500 consultants. Mike was responsible for setting the strategy and leading this business as well as client account leadership and delivery of consulting projects. In his three year tenure the private sector business had a 20% compound annual growth rate.
Prior to this Mike had responsibility for establishing and building EY SA’s management consulting business. As well as leading this business he managed key consulting projects. In his management consulting career which has spanned 20 years he had led projects to corporates in various industries providing consulting services that include strategy, finance, technology, supply chain and operations improvement.
Mike also spent four years at a listed IT company in South Africa as Operations Director of the consulting business and then Regional Director for the company. Mike worked in the UK managing the information systems for an equipment services company, part of a NYSE listed group.
Mike is Chairman of a charitable trust assisting schools in poorer communities.
